Story
I met a woman who called herself Anastasiia Nebalovna through the dating app Bumpy. From the start, our communication seemed normal and polite. She sent attractive photos and behaved in a way that made her appear genuine and open to a serious relationship. At an early stage, she also sent me an image of a Ukrainian ID card, presenting it as proof of who she was. This made her seem more trustworthy, especially compared to many other profiles online. As our conversations continued, I noticed that the ID she shared did not look right. The document did not match what a real Ukrainian ID card should look like in terms of format and details. This raised my first serious doubts. The ID appeared to be used mainly to convince me that she was real and that there was no reason to question her identity. Communication followed a clear pattern. At first, we chatted intensively on Bumpy, with frequent messages, compliments, and emotional engagement. Soon after, she suggested moving the conversation to private messengers. Once we were communicating outside the dating app, everything became more controlled and less transparent. Her messages focused on building emotional closeness and trust. The intention seemed to be to establish a relationship strong enough that any future request for help or money would feel natural. The ID card was repeatedly implied as proof that she was “not like other scams” and that I could trust her. Although no direct request for money was completed in my case, it became clear to me that the situation was being prepared for that stage. The combination of an attractive profile, emotional bonding, private communication, and the use of a forged identity document strongly suggests a romance scam setup. Once I realized this, I stopped further communication. I am reporting this case to warn others, as the same approach could easily lead to financial loss for someone who trusts the documents and emotional connection without independent verification.
